Cataract
Surgery
A cataract is a clouding of the lens inside the
front of the eye, which can cause blurred vision
and prevent you from seeing near and distant objects
clearly. Surgical treatment may be required to
remove the lens and implant an artificial lens.
YAG
Laser Surgery
Often, following cataract surgery, the lens capsule
(which holds the intra-ocular lens) becomes cloudy.
Yag Laser is used to create a hole in this capsule
to help improve vision.
Glaucoma (Red
Eyes)
Glaucoma is a condition in which the optic nerve
at the back of the eye is slowly destroyed resulting
in visual loss. It is usually, but not always
associated with raised intra-ocular pressure.
Pterygium
A pterygium is a benign growth that develops on
the surface of the eye and towards the cornea.
If it is aggressive and progresses onto the cornea
surgical treatment may be indicated.
Strabismus
Strabismus or squint is when the eyes deviate
from perfect alignment. It can occur in both children
and adults with varied causes and treatment.
Oculoplastics
An Oculoplastic surgeon is an Ophthalmologist
who has completed additional training in plastic
and reconstructive surgery relating to the eye
and its surrounding structures.
Ptosis
Ptosis is drooping of the upper eyelid. The lid
may droop slightly or completely cover the pupil
which can obstruct normal vision.
Ectropion
Ectropion is an abnormal lower eyelid that turns
outward and no longer touches the eye. As a result,
the conjunctiva may become red and exposed.
Entropion
Entropion is an inwardly turned (inverted) eyelid.
It can involve the upper or lower eyelid, however,
the lower eyelid is more frequently affected.
Skin Cancers
Skin cancer often involves the skin of the eyelid
or adjacent face. Eyelid skin cancers occur most
often on the lower eyelid and appear as painless
elevations or nodules.
